Carlos Azañedo

Carlos Azañedo (Madrid, 1990) is a contemporary Spanish artist whose personal and expressive style blends figuration and abstraction.

Azañedo creates imaginary landscapes, working with color, light, movement, and perspective to produce complex, evocative compositions.

He graduated with the highest grade in Architecture, an education that has greatly influenced his work. Since then, he has developed an international artistic career, with exhibitions of his paintings in the United States, Japan, and Europe.

In 2017, the Osaka Municipal Museum in Japan awarded him the GEN TEN Foundation Medal of Honor and acquired some of his work for permanent display. Shortly thereafter, Azañedo held his first solo exhibition at an art gallery in Madrid. Since then, he has continued his artistic career with exhibitions in
galleries in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Spain. His most recent solo exhibitions have taken place in The Hamptons (New York), Los Angeles (California), and Madrid (Spain).

Since the beginning of his career, he has devoted much of his work to the urban landscape. Through color, he has explored and developed different series, seeking to capture the atmosphere and transience of contemporary cities. With quick, precise brushstrokes, he captures moments that allow viewers to immerse themselves in the scenes and project their own memories and experiences onto his cityscapes.

Recently, Azañedo has begun exploring new themes, such as nature, floral motifs, festive environments, and Spanish bullfighting. In these paintings, his strong expressiveness is evident through his use of color and brushwork. The artist maintains his interest in concepts such as movement, reflections, and perspective. Through these, he explores different color palettes to achieve the abstraction of forms in complex compositions. Thus, all of Azañedo’s work shares the same compositional and conceptual language.

All his paintings are born from memory and experience. They are spaces constructed from personal experiences, fragments of journeys, and emotions that the artist recomposes in the intimacy of his studio. Through his paintings, Azañedo reflects the complexity and essence of the world around him, capturing the movement and transience of the contemporary era.
