Fernando García Almeida

Fernando García Almeida (Ávila, Spain, 1981) is a contemporary Spanish multidisciplinary artist and sculptor. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca (2007), as well as a Master’s degree in Fine Arts and a specialization in sculpture from the University of Salamanca (2008).

Throughout his career, he has worked with various media and techniques, including painting, ceramics, and sculpture, focusing the latter on materials such as marble, clay, granite, and, notably, wood.

His artistic career is oriented toward the study of the didactic and therapeutic value of the image, while at the same time developing an intense academic work reflected in the publication of numerous research papers. His research has focused on the analysis of order in the image through the study of the work of artists such as Caravaggio, Monet, Rothko, Rodin, and Van Gogh, with the aim of simplifying visual information without detracting from its expressiveness. In this process, he addresses concepts such as fragility, torsion, density, rigidity, and softness of elements, integrating them into his sculptural and pictorial production.

From this perspective, the artist proposes revising traditional compositional systems, emphasizing the relevance of specific elements in the spatial and perceptual configuration of the work. In the artist’s own words:

“We can no longer be guided solely by the golden ratio or classical canons. Even the smallest detail can affect the composition of an image, altering space and evoking sensations that can relax or stimulate the viewer.”

García Almeida creates works that transform the surroundings and redefine space through a personal, expressive language that abstracts forms while maintaining figuration in faces, bodies, and figures.

With almost two decades of artistic career, his work has been exhibited in various public spaces in Spain. He currently lives and works in Ávila, Spain.
