Two Worlds
Marlyn Gallery is pleased to open its new Madrid space with the exhibition Two Worlds, a solo show by Spanish artist Carlos Azañedo.
Born in Madrid in 1990, Azañedo creates imaginary landscapes in which color, light, perspective, and movement interact to form complex, evocative compositions. With a background in architecture, Azañedo has developed an international artistic career, with exhibitions in the United States, Japan, and Europe. Since the beginning of his career, his work has largely focused on urban landscapes. Through color, he explores concepts such as movement, light, reflections, and different urban densities, aiming to capture the atmosphere and frenetic environment of large contemporary cities.
In recent years, Azañedo has begun working on an apparently opposite subject: nature. This new body of work maintains his interest in light, reflections in water, and the dinamism of the habitat, all while exploring an equally lively and varied color palette.
Despite the differences between urban and natural landscapes, Azañedo approaches them as sharing the same compositional and conceptual language. In addition, both are born from his memories and experiences; they are created from memories of places he has visited and emotions he has experienced, which he reconfigures in the intimacy of his studio.
Two Worlds is, essentially, a journey that brings us closer to Azañedo’s perception of the world. Through agile and precise brushstrokes combined with freshness and liveliness on the canvas, Azañedo invites viewers to appropriate the landscapes he has imagined for their own memories, experiences, and desires.
